Tips for Incoming Students

The University of Missouri offers several scholarships for which students are considered automatically when they are admitted to Mizzou. Completing applications in ScholarshipUniverse qualifies you for even more money.

You’ll need to set a password to your myZou account before you can login to ScholarshipUniverse. (It’s the same instructions as a password reset.)

When you login to ScholarshipUniverse, you’ll be prompted to answer a series of matching questions which will qualify (“match”) you to scholarships that you meet the minimum qualifications for. While answering the matching questions, you’ll need some additional info. Check the dashboard on your Application Status Page. And have your high school transcript and activity information handy.

You don’t have to answer all the matching questions in order to move on to the applications. Answer the first 10 question sets and check out your matches. You can always go back to the Questions section to answer more. The more matching questions you answer, the more scholarship opportunities you may match with. When you view matched scholarship(s), you’ll be eligible to submit applications for each.

Certain applications allow you to apply for many scholarships at once. Searching for “MU Financial Aid General Scholarship” is a shortcut to filling out an application that qualifies you for dozens of Mizzou scholarships. Do this one first. Then look for additional applications for other Mizzou awards like scholarships from your major, school or college.

ScholarshipUniverse helps you apply for scholarships from Mizzou and from other sources.

  • Here’s how to tell where the money is coming from: Check the “Matches” column. Mizzou scholarships have an icon with a roof and columns. Money from other sources (external scholarships) have a globe icon and have “External Scholarship” for the Organization.
  • You may see January 1, 2021 as the deadline on many of the Mizzou scholarships. You must still complete these by December 1, 2020 {for priority consideration}.
  • External scholarships have varying open and close dates and can even be added at any time. You can always log back in to check out what’s new.
  • When you click apply on an External Scholarship you will be directed to a site outside of ScholarshipUniverse.

As you’re filling out applications, your answers will be saved along the way. But once you submit an application you won’t be able to edit it. So double check your work!

You will be notified in ScholarshipUniverse and by email of any awards you receive. Your comprehensive financial aid offer will be available for you by mid-March. Wait for this offer to know all the aid available for you at Mizzou.
