Scholarship Appeals

2020-21 Scholarship Appeal

The Office of Student Financial Aid will accept scholarship appeals from continuing students who did not meet renewal criteria for their automatic scholarships. If you fail to meet the minimum renewal criteria of total hours completed for the academic term and/or cumulative GPA at the end of the Spring semester, your automatic scholarship can only be reinstated if an appeal is submitted and approved.

Students who are not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) will need to submit a SAP appeal prior to appealing for any renewal of their automatic scholarship. You must be meeting overall SAP standards or be placed on financial aid probation in order to appeal for reinstatement of your automatic scholarship.

Scholarship Appeal Instructions

  • Download the scholarship appeal form from this webpage
  • If required, schedule an appointment with a member of the Center for Academic Success and Excellence (CASE) staff to complete your additional worksheet (only certain automatic scholarships require this step)
  • Type and attach a narrative that explains the specific circumstances that have caused you to become ineligible and the specific steps you are now taking to address these circumstances
  • Attach any relevant documentation whenever possible (letter from your physician, counselor, etc.)
  • Submit your complete appeal to the email listed on the bottom of the scholarship appeal form

Scholarship Appeal Important Dates and Deadlines

  • Academic progress of each financial aid recipient is reviewed annually after the spring semester
  • It is recommended that appeals be submitted as soon as possible prior to the stated deadline
  • September 18, 2020 - appeals submitted after this date will not be considered for renewal

Scholarship Appeal Review

All scholarship appeals are reviewed by a committee on a case-by-case basis. Incomplete appeals will delay review as the committee will only review complete appeals. The committee may request additional or updated information before making a decision. Appeal decisions by the committee are final and not subject to further review. If your appeal is denied, it is recommended you meet with your financial aid adviser to discuss options for funding your education.

Allow 2-3 weeks for your appeal to be reviewed. It is recommended you submit your appeal as soon as possible, especially if your decision to enroll is dependent up on the appeal decision. Should your scholarship appeal be approved, the award will be added to your existing financial aid package and may result in an adjustment to aid.
